Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce Debuts Podcast
Asis Chronicle editor Kameko Thomas had the distinct pleasure of being the first business profiled in the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce’s podcast series, “A Conversation With…”
The podcast is designed to highlight the rewards and challenges African American business owners face as they go about the daily work of building, maintaining, and growing a successful enterprise.
SBAACC chair Tanita Gilbert-Baker established the podcast as a means of demonstrating to the current membership that the Chamber understands the need to be “plugged in”, while at the same time, maintaining the focus on their core mission of advocating on behalf of Black-owned enterprises.
ACW is the Chamber’s way of telling its membership: “We’re here, and we’re listening. Tell us what you need us to do.”
In each podcast, current and new members talk about their experiences as African American business owners, the challenges they face as Black business owners, and the reality of what an African American-owned-and-operated business actually is, versus the prevailing stereotype of what most people believe it to be (For example Black people can own beauty supply chains and dry cleaners all day long, but they need to “stay in their lane” when it comes to fields such as digital/web design, banking/finance, professional copywriting, architecture, and engineering).
A different member/business owner will be featured each month.
“A Conversation With…” is a joint production between the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce and Shreveport-based Elite Media Group, LLC.
