Student auditions start tonight for Madigals and Guys Choir

The East Baton Rouge Madrigals and Guys Choir, formerly known as the East Baton Rouge Children’s Chorus, will hold auditions this Friday and Saturday at Broadmoor High School. It is open to students in grades 4-12 parish wide. There is a $5 audition fee per student. Each person auditioning must be prepared to sing one song of their choosing plus “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” This is the 15th anniversary year for the chorus group.

This auditioned parish choir strives to develop high artistic standards not only through choral singing, literature and performance, but also through confidence, teamwork and self-discipline. The students learn and perform a variety of music including classical, pop, folk and sacred selections.

The many awards and accolades this choir has garnered include Superior ratings at all Louisiana Music Educators’ Association District and State festivals since 2005, Gold (first place) at all Heritage Festivals entered (including Atlanta, New York, San Antonio and Orlando) and appearing as part of the National Children’s Choir at Carnegie Hall. The Madrigals & Guys has performed for presidents and dignitaries in the United States and abroad in languages from around the world including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Swahili.

Choral students represent the best of the East Baton Rouge Parish. They hearken from parish Gifted and Talented programs, have been named to District and All-State honors choirs, belong to Beta clubs and honor societies and have included State Students of the Year from elementary, middle and high schools.
