BRAC seeks public input
With three weeks left to file new legislation for this year’s session, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking community input to help develop a new governance structure for the East Baton Rouge Public School System. The Chamber is planning to write education legislation that would primarily shift governing power from the local school boards to the school and community level. The organization has created a set of principles to guide the formulation of legislation. These principles include changing the roles and responsibilities of school board representatives, creating community enrollment zones, and protecting magnet and special-needs options. BRAC is encouraging community leaders and citizens to sign up at http://www.brac.org/communityschools and help find an “effective and equitable solution”.
