Southern University wins $40,000 Home Depot Grant

Southern University and A&M College will receive a $40,000 Retool Your School grant from Home Depot.

Southern University’s Baton Rouge and Shreveport campuses along with Grambling State University are part of the 30 HBCUs selected by students, alumni and advocates to receive a combined $1 million in campus improvements grants through the annual Retool Your School program this year.

For the 12th year of Retool Your School, The Home Depot is doubling its commitment to the program and tripling its impact.

Later this year, Southern will use the Retool Your School program funding to contribute to campus improvement projects with the support of The Home Depot associate volunteers. Improvement projects will be completed in accordance with all CDC and government safety guidelines.

Established in 2009, Retool Your School has provided more than 140 sustainable campus improvement grants to 87 percent of the nation’s HBCUs. The grants are created to ensure that upon their return to campus, HBCU students have an upgraded environment that enhances their educational experience as they progress on their journey to become the next generation of leaders.
